Holistic Health Care and Wellness in Glenwood Springs
Holistic health care and wellness are the concern of many people today. Many times clients will ask what they can do at home to support their journey towards holistic living and wellness.
At first it can be a little overwhelming and seem complicated. Much of the “to do list” can be simplified and broken down into three essentials to life.
What are the three essentials to life? Air, Water and Food.
Three Essentials to Life and Wellness
Air for Holistic Health Care and Wellness
Lasting only a few minutes without air, breathing is the most vital necessity to human life. We can do our part to reduce pollution but for the most part we don’t have much choice in the quality of air we breathe. What we do have control over is how we breathe. Are you breathing consciously? Most of us breathe just enough to simply stay alive. Physically, deeper breathing increases blood flow, reduces blood pressure, increases much needed oxygen to organs and aids in detoxing the body. Emotionally, deeper breathing reduces stress and grounds you into the present moment with a greater sense of well being. Raise your hand if you want to feel better with less stress? How many of you take the time to breathe consciously? There are many breathing techniques to conscious breathing. Meditation, yoga, tai chi, qi gong are just a few. Even taking 3 deep conscious breaths can be transforming.
Water for Holistic Health Care and Wellness
Proper hydration is the next essential to human life. Experts say that the human body consists of 50-75% water. The brain itself consists of at least 75% water. Cells and muscles need water to function properly. Water aids to balance electrolytes in muscles and throughout the body. Proper hydration is needed to regulate bowl movements reducing constipation. The digestive, lymphatic and urinary systems need water to flush and release toxic waist from the body. How much water should one drink? The water formula is to drink 1⁄2 your body weight in ounces per day. So a person weighing 150 pounds would need to drink 75 ounces per day. Increase that amount if you are exercising heavily or cleansing. The quality of water is important as well. Carbon filtered water is the bare minimum. Also avoid drinking out of plastic water containers as they leach chemicals into the water you drink.
Food for Holistic Health Care and Wellness
Food is needed to produce nutrients and energy within our body. If this is true, ask yourself what type of food am I eating? Are you eating the typical Standard American Diet (SAD) of processed foods with little or no nutritional value? Or are you eating a balanced diet of whole foods alive with nutrients and energy? Organic and non-GMO foods have a higher concentration of nutrients without the use of chemicals, pesticides, hormones or antibiotics. Processed foods are harder to digest making it difficult to assimilate nutrients and to eliminate properly. How are you feeding your body? We are what we eat!
